“The Past Is for Lessons” Day after day, the man toiled in the field: raking, hoeing, and pulling weeds. One day, he saw a trace of a tail left behind by the cat. He thought it probably was from a poor gopher the cat had eaten. He set it aside to let nature take care of it. Days later, a larger tail was nearby. The tail had planted itself and was growing tall. Leaves coming from the tail bore these words, “Don’t take anything for granted. Even the weeds in the ground serve a purpose.” He copied the message and preserved it. The next day, he found more notes. One note said, “Take nothing for granted, not even the hawk that passes by. Live with him without harming him.” He copied that message. He came back later that night and found on the ground the hawk he had seen passing through. The hawk had a message in its beak. The man bent over and carefully took it. It said, “This guide shall be yours, always be true to yourself and you will never need to worry.” The man said aloud, “Praise God, for he has chosen me. I thought my deeds I did as a young man would keep me from heaven.” From that day on, he married himself to the Lord and practiced what the Good Book told him. Youth does not seal the deal with the Lord. Sometimes, a person should learn to live by the Book. It is his wish that neither man nor woman lose their ability to regain the life as intended by him. The past is for lessons. The present is for living. Tomorrow is reserved for tomorrow. Place Christ in the forefront and be not disturbed by matters not in your control. Matthew placed his trust in God first. Let this be your path too and as he said, “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble” (Matthew 6:34, ESV). Don’t hesitate to live the present with the Lord.
